18 Dead and 400 Injured in Nationwide Protests in Peru
A total of 18 dead and over 400 injured are the sad figures that the nationwide protests have been leaving in the wake of the political crisis that the country is going through. Among the most affected regions is Arequipa, where besides the attacks against the lives of our fellow countrymen, attacks on public places have also been reported.
The closure of the airport and different roads has also caused hundreds of transporters or tourists to end up stranded on the road, without provisions and with no certainty about their destination. This situation has prompted dozens of journalists to travel to each region to broadcast live reports.
"Are you from Latina? Get out of here..."
However, the reception of the press has not been the best. At least, it has not been the case for a reporter from Latina who was in the middle of a live broadcast when some locals confronted him after finding out which channel he worked for. An absolute contempt towards journalists.
A transporter did not hesitate to hurl a series of insults and notify his fellow colleagues in the vicinity to attack the reporter with harsh words, who quickly moved away from the place, while the studio tried to distract the viewer's attention from the hostile reception.
Arequipa is one of the 15 provinces where a nationwide curfew has been imposed. The violent demonstrations, along with police repression, are resulting in lamentable consequences for the physical and mental integrity of our entire country.
