Sergio 'Checo' Pérez

Sergio 'Checo' Pérez will compete again in Formula 1 in front of the Mexican fans, and although he is expected to fight for second place in the season, the driver assured that his biggest wish is to win the race in Mexican territory.

In a press conference organized by Claro, the 32-year-old driver spoke about how special it is for him to race with the support of the fans and with the flags of his country in the venue.

"I have a great desire to win the Mexican Grand Prix, I prefer to win in Mexico than to be runner-up," said 'Checo' Pérez. He also added that after several seasons, he would not view his retirement as distant if he manages to become champion.

"For me, it's important to start the next year very strong, so that it comes true in the next season. If I were champion, I don't know if I would leave. I have been in the category for 12 years already, and at some point it will come. I am very excited. F1 gives you a lot but also takes a lot from you. It's a 100% commitment to the sport. If I manage to become champion, I don't know what will come next," he expressed.

As for the balance of this 2022, Sergio Pérez highlighted how exciting it was to be among the frontrunners alongside Max Verstappen, although he stated that his goal remains to become Formula 1 champion.

"It has been very exciting, intense, and requires a lot of dedication. The most special moment in my career has been winning Monaco. You always dream of racing there, and when you win, you know you enter the history of world motorsport. And then there are the podiums like Singapore, but I hope there are still better moments to come," he said.
