Celebrate, Peru! Silver medal for Shoely Mego in weightlifting at the South American Games.

The competition at the Asuncion 2022 South American Games continues and there is positive news for the Peruvian delegation. This Monday, the Peruvian team won their first silver medal at the competition: Shoely Mego finished in second place in weightlifting, in the women's 55kg category.

The event took place at the Coliseum of the National Sports Secretary and the national representative achieved a total of 192 in the classification, after registering 108 in snatch and 84 in clean and jerk. The athlete's performance was impressive, but it was not enough to reach the top of the podium.

The Colombian Rosalba Morales Del Águila ended up winning the gold medal, with a score of 112 in snatch and 89 in clean and jerk, totaling 201. The podium was completed by the Brazilian Leticia Cristina Laurindo Moraes, who obtained a total of 191, with 105 in snatch and 86 in clean and jerk.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Shoely Mego has achieved important results internationally for Peru. In the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games, the athlete won two bronze medals in the 55kg category: one in snatch and one in clean and jerk.

Peru wins bronze in rowing

The Peruvian women's rowing team, comprised of the twins Valeria and Alessia Palacios, Adriana Sanguineti, and Pamela Noya, achieved third place in the coxless four category, with a time of 06:40.85.

With just a few hundredths of a second behind, the Brazilian team of Chloe Delazeri, Dayane Santos, Milena Viana, and Nathalia Barbosa took the second place (06:40.68); while the gold medal went to the Chilean delegation, which had Antonia Abraham, Melita Abraham, Victoria Hostetter, and Christina Hostetter in their team. The southern country set a record in the event, finishing the race in 06:28.91.
