Peruvian delegation has positive news at the 2022 Asuncion South American Games. On Monday, Shoely Mego won the team's first silver medal in the women's 55 kg weightlifting competition.

The event took place at the National Sports Secretariat Coliseum, and the national representative achieved a total of 192 in the classification, with 108 in clean and jerk and 84 in snatch. The athlete's performance was impressive but not enough to reach the top of the leaderboard.

Colombian athlete Rosalba Morales Del Águila ended up winning the gold medal, with 112 in clean and jerk and 89 in snatch, totaling 201. The podium was completed by Brazilian athlete Leticia Cristina Laurindo Moraes, who achieved a total of 191, with 105 in clean and jerk and 86 in snatch.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Shoely Mego has achieved important international results for Peru. In the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games, the athlete won two bronze medals in the 55 kg category: one in snatch and another in clean and jerk.
