The British Grand Prix of Formula 1 had to be interrupted in the first lap, after a shocking accident involving Guanyu Zhou, from Alfa Romeo. After several minutes of medical intervention, it was known that the driver is conscious and has been transferred to a medical center for evaluation.
Let's remember that the Chinese driver's car spun in the air after colliding with George Russell, went through the gravel, and ended up against the barriers after bouncing over the safety fence. Due to what happened, the assistants had to work for more than half an hour to remove the affected driver from the sector.
Fortunately, according to the organization, Guanyu Zhou was taken to a nearby medical center to receive the necessary attention. At the same time, it was reported by Formula 1 that Alex Albon (Williams Racing) was also observed and taken in an ambulance, as he suffered multiple collisions in the same incident.
The Guanyu Zhou Accident
The race at Silverstone Circuit had started and Zhou started very evenly with Russell, his British counterpart, in ninth and eighth place respectively. However, their progress was hindered by the appearance of Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri), who tried to overtake them through the middle.
The Frenchman couldn't advance and was forced to retreat, but he directly affected George Russell: he hit the Mercedes tire and the car changed direction. Due to this action, Guanyu Zhou received a direct impact and, due to the speed, ended up rolling over. The scene was impressive.
After the collision, the Asian driver went straight into the gravel, bounced over the safety fence, and ended up against the barriers. The medical assistance of the British Grand Prix immediately approached to attend to the affected driver, to the amazement of the fans. The intervention lasted several minutes.
At the same time, the accident caused several collisions involving Alex Albon (Williams Racing), who was left stranded. Shortly after, Formula 1 reported that both the Thai driver and the member of Alfa Romeo were attended to, conscious, and taken to the medical center for further evaluations. On the other hand, the cars of Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) also had negative outcomes.
