Carlos Sainz is in search of his first victory in the British GP: time, TV and qualifying.

Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) will start first this Sunday at the British Grand Prix, the tenth of the Formula 1 World Championship, which takes place at the Silverstone circuit (England), where his compatriot Fernando Alonso (Alpine) will start seventh.

Sainz, 27 years old, secured the first pole of his F1 career by dominating the rainy qualifying session, in which, on his best lap, he covered the 5,891 meters of the legendary English track in one minute, 40 seconds and 983 milliseconds, 72 less than the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), the championship leader, who will start alongside him on the front row in a race where their teammates, the Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Checo Pérez, fourth in the main qualifying session, will start from the second row.

In the third row will be the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris, while in the fourth row will be the remaining Mercedes driver, George Russell, alongside the Spanish Alpine driver.

"The pace has been there all weekend. If I go in dry conditions like in the second practice, everything will go well; if I go like in the third practice, it will be a struggle," said the Spanish Ferrari driver after getting out of the red car, who received public congratulations from his team boss, the Italo-Swiss Mattia Binotto.

Verstappen dominated the first two rounds of qualifying, but had to give way to Sainz in the end, who this Saturday achieved pole position number 23 for Spain in F1, almost ten years after Alonso, author of the other 22, secured the last one at the 2012 German Grand Prix in Hockenheim; and likewise for Ferrari.

"It was a good qualifying session, I felt comfortable out there. Obviously the track was very slippery: my 360-degree spin in Q3 (the third round of qualifying) was a new tire warming technique," Verstappen commented, humorously. "But overall, I think we did a great job; and we have a great race car," he added.

Everything points to Sainz being able to claim his first victory this Sunday, which he has been cooking slowly. This time, starting from pole position, he is close to achieving that goal. The tenth race of the Championship is scheduled for 52 laps, to complete a distance of 306.2 kilometers.
