Charles Leclerc continues to show his great level in the current Formula 1 season with a new pole, this time in the Spanish Grand Prix. The Monegasque made a time of 1:18.750, surpassing Max Verstappen (1:19.073) and his teammate Carlos Sainz (1:19.166).
What caught the most attention about the Ferrari driver's time was that he achieved this mark in just one timed lap, as he lost control of the car on his first attempt and had to retire to the pits. "I made a mistake at the beginning of Q3 and only had one lap, but it went extremely well and I made it. The car is amazing," commented Leclerc.
The second big surprise of the day was the performance of the Mercedes drivers. Both George Russel and Lewis Hamilton have improved their performance and placed fourth and sixth, respectively.
