Ecuador wins big at the Ibero-American Weightlifting Championship

Ecuador won 17 gold medals, 16 silver medals, and 6 bronze medals at the Ibero-American Weightlifting Championship held online with the endorsement of the South American Weightlifting Confederation.

Tricolores Tamara Salazar, Neisi Dajomes, Dixon Arroyo, and Jair Reyes each won three gold medals.

Salazar, who competed in the 87 kg category, achieved her best result in the snatch with 100 kg on her second attempt, as she failed to lift the weight in her first and third attempts. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 125 kg on her first attempt, 130 kg on her second, and 135 kg on her third.

Combining both lifts, Salazar won the third gold medal with a total of 235 kg, leaving second place to Irene Blanco from Spain, who lifted a total of 208 kg.

Dajomes lifted 102 kg in the snatch and 120 kg on her first attempt in the clean and jerk, securing the gold medal.

Dajomes also came out on top in the total with a combined lift of 225 kg, leaving second place to Mailyng Echeverría from Colombia with 215 kg.

Other performances

In the men's event, Dixon Arroyo won all three gold medals in the snatch with 175 kg, in the clean and jerk with 190 kg, and in the total with 365 kg.

Meanwhile, Reyes lifted 124 kg in the snatch, 152 kg in the clean and jerk, and 276 kg in the total.

In other performances, Nicol Vallejo won a silver medal in the 54 kg category, while Angélica Campoverde won two silver medals and a bronze in the 49 kg category. Jennifer Becerra won two silver medals and a bronze in the 59 kg category. Yajaira Anangonó won a gold medal and two silver medals in the 87 kg category. Juliana Jiménez won three silver medals in the 71 kg category.

In the men's event, Benjamín Zurita won a gold medal and two silver medals in the 55 kg category, Christian Zurita won two bronze medals in the 61 kg category, Javier Grefa won two gold medals and a silver medal in the 81 kg category, and Wilmer Contreras won two silver medals and a bronze medal in the 96 kg category.
