Despite setting a new Pan American record with 117 kilograms in snatch in the 87 kg category, Dominican athlete Crismery Santana was not entirely happy during the clean and jerk event at Lima 2019.
Santana was leading the competition, but suffered an injury in her elbow while attempting to lift 143 kilograms. The video shows how she was able to lift the bar with great effort, but couldn't hold it up and her left elbow gave in.

Immediately, Crismery Santana raised her hand calling for medical attention. After her failed attempt, she had to settle for the silver medal, as the gold went to Chilean athlete María Fernanda Valdés.
"I am grateful for the support I have received. I don't know what happened, I felt like my elbow broke, came out, and went back in, but thank God we are fine, although I feel a lot of pain," said Santana after the competition.
