First Edition of Grupo Surman Athletic Race Celebrated
This Sunday, the first edition of the Grupo Surman athletic race was celebrated, with Isaúl Hernández Escalante from Zacatecas and Argentina Valdepeñas from Torreón emerging as the top winners in the 10-kilometer distance.
Two thousand competitors participated in the 1, 5, and 10-kilometer distances. They started at 8:00 AM from Volkswagen de Independencia 502 oriente, and the 10-kilometer contingent followed the entire boulevard.
The registration fees will be donated by the organizing committee to the 'Sonrisa Azul' Foundation, which provides assistance to children with autism.
Immediately, the favorites took the lead, Isaúl Hernández, Dionisio Castillo, and José Antonio García Olvera from Gómez Palacio. After the second kilometer, Isaúl and Dionisio pulled away, fighting neck and neck until the end of the race, when Hernández Escalante made the definitive escape to cross the finish line alone, with a time of 30 minutes and 25 seconds.
Second place went to Dionisio, a runner originally from Veracruz but adopted as a Lagunero, who stopped the clock at 31 minutes and 33 seconds, while García Olvera finished third with 32 minutes and 27 seconds.
In the ladies category, Argentina Valdepeñas Cerna had no rivals, as she led the entire route without anyone to challenge her. Her time was 35 minutes and 58 seconds, with Jessica Flores Ramírez from Lerdo as her closest pursuer, finishing in 39 minutes and 14 seconds.
The third position in the women's 10K race was taken by Elizabeth Monroy Soto, with a time of 41 minutes and 7 seconds.
The 5K race started at 8:05 AM from Corporativo Surman de Independencia 306, and once again a runner from Zacatecas dominated the men's category: Felipe Hernández Escalante, who finished in 15 minutes and 57 seconds.
Second place went to Alexis Alan Hernández Treviño, with 16 minutes and 26 seconds, while Javier Mejía García took third place with a time of 16:48.
"We are delighted with what we have achieved in this first edition, we started off on the right foot and that is thanks to the public's preference," said Jorge Martínez, Director of Marketing at Grupo Surman.
As for the women in the 5K race, María Reyna Hernández Escalante from Zacatecas was the best. Her time was 20 minutes and 18 seconds, with María del Rocío Gutiérrez taking second place with 20:58, and Febe Eunice Pérez Guardiola finishing third with 21:30.
Around 9:30 AM, the 1K race started in front of the Surman Corporate offices, at Independencia and Jiménez, where the finish line for all the races was located.
All three races took place in a great festive atmosphere, with ample traffic safety along the entire route and sufficient supply stations.
The cool weather surprised the runners, but it favored their performance, as many runners improved their personal records in the 5 and 10-kilometer races.
Jorge Martínez, Director of Marketing at Grupo Surman, thanked the public for their support in this first edition and assured that more editions will come to continue their program of support for institutions, as in this case, the 'Sonrisa Azul' Foundation, which assists children with autism.
