Ogier wins Rally Mexico 2018

Frenchman Sebastien Ogier had a spectacular finish and won Rally Mexico 2018 with a difference of over a minute, securing his fourth victory in Mexican soil and first with his Ford Fiesta.

With this result, Ogier takes the lead in the World Rally Championship with 60 points, displacing Belgian Thierry Neuville to second place, who had to deal with many problems in Mexico and only managed to salvage two points in the Power Stage.

M-Sport's driver completed the job he started on Saturday to finish with a final time of 3 hours 53 minutes and 58 seconds, with a difference of 1:13.6 minutes from second place, Spanish driver Dani Sordo, who took advantage of a mistake by Kris Meeke to send the British driver to third position.

Ogier minimized his time loss on Friday from the second starting position, as he cleared the loose dirt on the roads, leaving them cleaner and faster for his rivals behind.

He climbed from fifth to first place on Saturday, avoiding problems with his Ford Fiesta, as mistakes and issues cost time to his competitors. He was able to pace himself on Sunday before celebrating his victory in this third event of the season in Leon.

"It's a special place for me every year. Seven podiums and four wins, I love it. There is a great atmosphere, although I knew this weekend would be difficult starting second on the road. I knew our chance was quite small, but we never gave up," said Ogier.
