After thirteen stages, the Dakar 2018 concluded; therefore, the champions of the five categories have already returned to their respective countries. This is the case of Carlos Sainz, champion in the car category, who traveled from Buenos Aires (Argentina) to Spain to reunite with his wife and children.
When the 55-year-old pilot came out through door number four of Baraja Airport in Madrid, hundreds of fans waited for him with open arms, to the rhythm of "Campeón" and "Matador", Sainz's nickname.
"I did not expect this reception, all I can do is thank them all. Seeing all my friends brings me great satisfaction and great joy," said Sainz. In the midst of the commotion, the Spaniard saw his family again after almost a month.
After embracing his family, Sainz spoke about his possible retirement. "I do not know, I will make the decision later. Just as I decided to leave the World Rally Championship, the time will come when I have to say goodbye to the Dakar," he added.
