André Villas-Boas Makes His Debut in the Dakar Rally
He left the football fields and the coach tracks to put on a pilot suit and enter the world of the Dakar. André Villas-Boas, former coach of Chelsea and Tottenham, will race in the toughest rally in the world for the first time, although he has the experience of one edition in his blood, thanks to his uncle Pedro.
"He raced in the Dakar in 1982 when it was still held in Africa. I always wanted to race it, motorsports has been a family matter. When I was a child, my father took me to see Formula 1 in Portugal and I started to like the sport," said Villas-Boas, who will compete in the car category.
Villas-Boas acknowledges that starting from Lima will be a great challenge. This is because other drivers have told him about the difficulty of the dunes. "The goal will be to finish the race, but to do that we will have to overcome all the challenges. I am very optimistic," he said. The Portuguese has faith in himself.
He competed in the Baja de Porto Alegre in 2016. That time, he did it on a motorcycle. (Difusion)
