McLaren will decide

Fernando Alonso would compete with Toyota in the next edition of the legendary French race, Le Mans, with the permission of Renault and his F1 team.

Zak Brown said in an interview with As at the end of the season that he had a future plan for Fernando Alonso. The CEO of McLaren has commented on it again on 'Sky Sports'. "I would like him to end his racing career at McLaren, not just his Formula 1 career. I would like him to stay in the family. He is very involved, the team appreciates him and we hope to compete together for a long time," explains the American.

And McLaren has a plan with Alonso as the foundation, which includes participation not only in the F1 World Championship, but also in Indy Car and Endurance racing, the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But that is in the future, when the English manufacturer plans to make cars for those competitions, either on its own or through agreements, like this year with Andretti.

Now the next challenge is the 24 Hours of Daytona and then... Le Mans, the legendary 24-hour race. Alonso wants to go, he has already tested the Toyota, the only official team next year, and the car that can make him win, unless there are any breakdowns like in 2017 with the Japanese team or like what happened to Fernando himself at the Indy 500.

In any case, to ensure that Fernando is in Le Mans, several arrangements have had to be made (and are still ongoing) because the convergence of brands is very large. At least there is already a part that is convinced. Or two. McLaren. And Renault. "Yes, I talked to Renault. It would not be a problem for them, they don't race Le Mans. It is clear that Fernando wants to do it, he tested with Toyota, which is a brand that he appreciates. We usually discuss these matters, he has several options on the table. He wants to make sure that if he races, he can win. And we want to make sure that it does not distract him from his F1 program. I think we will decide very soon if he will compete in Le Mans in 2018 or not." So let's wait for news. Soon.
