Tour de France 2017: Rigoberto Uran and the story behind the second place in the French circuit.

The flashes and lights were not only for the British Chris Froome, winner of the 2017 Tour de France, but also for Rigoberto Urán, who has managed to overcome every obstacle in his life and has filled all of Colombia with pride.

A Ray of Light in Rigoberto Urán's Cycling Career

Despite not being the favorite to win the Tour de France 2017, Rigoberto Urán once again demonstrated that he can overcome the obstacles that life presents. The cyclist finished in second place in the French race, becoming the third Colombian to reach the podium.

This result fills the Colombian people with joy. It also represents a significant accomplishment for Urán, who, from a young age (14), had to take care of his family after the murder of his father. It was his father who instilled in him the love for this sport. Despite all the problems he faced, he never gave up his bicycle (which actually belonged to his uncle). On the contrary, he overcame adversity by studying during the day and selling lottery tickets at night to pursue his dream of going to Europe.

Urán made the leap to Italy and signed with the modest Tenax team in 2006. After a collarbone injury, his career continued with ups and downs, but he never gave up. The best was yet to come in 2012. Born in Antioquia, he won the white 'maillot' of the Giro d'Italia, which accredited him as the best young rider in the competition.

Moreover, at the London Olympic Games, he won the silver medal in the Road Cycling event, achieving Colombia's first medal in the sporting event. After that, he achieved more successes such as being twice on the podium of the Giro d'Italia (2013 and 2014).

Now, in the Tour de France, Urán took the place of his compatriot Nairo Quintana, who was considered the favorite Colombian rider. His second place was based on consistency and his ability to compete with the best in all terrains.

After several stages, he managed to surpass Frenchman Romain Bardet and finished just 58 seconds behind Froome, who saw him as a real threat on more than one occasion. The Colombian never lost faith in his abilities, on the contrary, he became motivated when everything was against him. Life taught him to become stronger every day.
