Diana Taurasi has yet to make a decision on her future for the 2025 season as the WNBA draft lottery tips off today.

Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi (3) waits to be introduced on Sept. 19, 2024 at Footprint Center in Phoenix.

Diana Taurasi undoubtedly is a living basketball legend as the first basketball player to win six Olympic gold medals, she continues to play outstanding fast-paced basketball. The 11x All-Star averaged over 14 points and kept the pressure on the rookie class, still hitting the dagger 3-point shot and never backing down on the defensive end this season. There was immense gratitude from the Mercury’s organization this year to DT for her career on the court and involvement in the team’s success. Will we see Taurasi in the lineup next season?

Suns superstar duo praise Mercury legend Diana Taurasi for what she has meant to basketball, Phoenix

The 3x WNBA champion told The Associated Press back in October that there is no rush for the decision.

“I don’t take retirement lightly. I know the minute I say it or announce it, whether it’s, you know, in a month or two months, I’m going to mean it,” Taurasi said. “I talk to wife Penny Taylor and Mercury, so I’m still in the thought process.”

There has still not been an announcement on the status of DT returning or not for next season as the WNBA has their draft take place today. For fans of the W and the Phoenix Mercury this season, it is great news that Diana expressed interest in future team ownership and involvement overall in the organization. Even if it’s a year or two later when the retirement announcement takes place, either way it definitely sounds as if Taurasi will not be far from the court. Remember mid-year during the 2024 WNBA All-Star weekend in Phoenix, the Mercury opened their new practice facility, a 58,000-square-foot performance center designed specifically for the WNBA team named after the star.

For now, DT is keeping those sneakers laced up and fans look forward to watching what more the 20-year veteran can bring to the league this upcoming season. Will the 2025 WNBA draft have any weight on DT’s decision for next season? Fans will have to keep their eyes peeled with the Mercury projected to pick up a shooting guard according to the WNBA mock draft.
