The authorities of Los Angeles granted Vanessa Bryant, widow of Kobe Bryant, 29 million dollars as compensation for the photos taken of the body of the NBA star at the location of the helicopter accident in which he died.
On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven other people died when their helicopter crashed on a hill near Los Angeles, California, in the western United States.
What happened with Kobe Bryant's photos?
The police and firefighters took photos at the scene, including images of the mutilated bodies of the Los Angeles Lakers legend and his daughter.
Some of these images were shown or sent to the athlete's relatives or friends.
Vanessa Bryant, the widow of the star, then filed a lawsuit for emotional damages, fearing that these images could someday circulate on the Internet.
The county of Los Angeles agreed on Tuesday to grant her 28.85 million dollars in compensation to resolve all the claims related to the accident.
This amount includes the 15 million already awarded to Vanessa Bryant by a Los Angeles court in August 2022 for the same reason.
"This date marks the success of Mrs. Bryant's brave battle," said her lawyer Luis Li in a statement quoted by US media.
"She fought for her husband, for her daughter, and for all those people whose deceased relatives were treated with the same lack of respect. We hope that this legal victory and settlement will put an end to this practice," he added.
