Anthony Davis scored 42 points and 12 rebounds and the Los Angeles Lakers secured the top spot in the Western Conference heading into the NBA playoffs by defeating the Utah Jazz 116-108 on Monday.
The Lakers (51-15) have a six-game advantage over the Los Angeles Clippers, who are in second place with five games to play before starting their first postseason since 2013.

"If you win enough games to be the first, then you have the right habits that will help you win in the playoffs," said Lakers coach Frank Vogel. "Obviously, we have higher expectations than being the top seeded, but we are proud of the achievement and we will enjoy it while we get ready for the playoffs."
Utah (42-25) is clinched for the playoffs, placing fifth in the West, half a game behind Houston and half a game ahead of Oklahoma City.

LeBron James scored 22 points, Dwight Howard added 11, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 10 for the Lakers.
Mitchell contributed 33 and Mike Conley 24 for Utah. Gobert added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Jazz.
