Juan Martín del Potro, number four in the world ranking, will make his debut this Wednesday (8:30 pm Peru time, via DirecTV Sports 2) at the Los Cabos Open in Mexico against American Marcos Giron.
Del Potro, who will seek to climb to the third position in the ATP ranking in this tournament, said he is suffering from the high temperatures he has encountered in Baja California. But he explained that this will not prevent him from showing his best level.
"We are suffering from the heat, however, it cools down at night and we will be fine. The wear and tear is quite high, it is difficult to make physical efforts with these temperatures, although it is a good decision that the organizers scheduled the matches in the afternoon and at night," explained Del Potro to the EFE agency.
After his great performance at Wimbledon 2018, where he lost in the quarterfinals in a five-set match against Rafael Nadal, Del Potro arrives at this 250 tournament as a top candidate for the title. But the Tandil player explained that he will have to show his best version.
"I have to take it one match at a time, there are dangerous players and anyone can beat anyone on a good day. It will be a difficult tournament and I hope I can play well," added Del Potro.
