Coach Tyronn Lue announced on Monday that rookie Cedi Osman will receive his third consecutive start, against the Thunder, before the All-Star break.

BOSTON -- When the Cleveland Cavaliers completely revamped their roster last week by sending six veteran players to other teams and acquiring four new ones in return, the prevailing idea was that George Hill, Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson, and Larry Nance Jr. would be the main players responsible for changing the face of the Cavs.

It turns out that the roster shake-up opened up a role for rookie Cedi Osman, who has already made a big impact. The small forward from Turkey will start this Tuesday against the Oklahoma City Thunder for the third consecutive game before the All-Star break, according to Cavs coach Tyronn Lue after Monday's practice.

Osman, taken as the first pick of the second round of the 2015 Draft after Cleveland traded guard and first overall college pick that year, Tyus Jones, to the Minnesota Timberwolves, has filled in the starting role left vacant by Jae Crowder in the last two games and has averaged 14 points, 5.5 rebounds, three assists, and two steals in those games.

Originally, Lue said he planned to start Osman against the Atlanta Hawks while the Cavs waited for their four new players to integrate into the team, but after the way Osman played against the Hawks, he earned a starting role against the Boston Celtics, and after the way he played in that game, helping Cleveland secure its second consecutive victory, he earned his third game in the starting lineup against the Thunder.

"I like what (Cedi) brings us," said Lue, noting that having Osman moves LeBron James to the power forward position. "It's a great disadvantage (for the opponent) to have James at the 4 because now you have four players who can break it down. It's great.

"Having Hood come off the bench and be a scoring force, a threat to score, is also great. I like where we are right now, and we'll see how this continues," added the coach.

Osman, who was born in Macedonia and played professionally in Turkey since he was 14 years old, says his success with the Cavs is causing a sensation in his old home.

"The past two nights, I trended on Twitter in Turkey," Osman said on Monday. "It's a big deal. But, seriously, I'm just having fun."

Regardless, there was one Twitter notification from an account in the United States that stood out above the rest, according to Osman.

Among all the positive attention he has received, the missed breakaway dunk in the second quarter of Sunday's win over the Celtics earned him a different kind of notoriety.

"They said, 'Welcome to Shaqtin' a Fool,' and that was the only notification that caught my attention and made me laugh a lot. But it's all good. I did it, and it's okay," Osman said.

The slip-up by Osman on the dunk, which was preceded by a steal he made from Kyrie Irving, was quickly forgiven by the Cavs.

"He missed a dunk. That happens, and we move on to the next play. (Cedi) hit back-to-back threes in the fourth quarter," said James on Sunday. "He's a great player and he's going to keep getting better and better, so I'm not going to talk much about the missed dunk."

Osman, 22, didn't downplay the mistake.

"I don't know what happened, really. I probably got too excited. I don't know, but everyone was standing up and when I missed, Jeff Green was so happy and was like, 'Ohhhh.' But it's all good," the European indicated.

Osman was proud of missing a dunk that didn't affect the score. He maintained his good performance, determined to go from guarding Irving and Jason Tatum to guarding Russell Westbrook and Paul George on Tuesday.

"It's a big challenge for me. When I missed that dunk, I kept playing, and the coaches and my teammates kept supporting me. For me, that was the really important thing, to keep playing. The mental preparation was positive for me," Osman concluded.
