Oscar Fernandez appointed new head of the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD)

Oscar Fernandez, former athlete and president of the Peruvian Athletics Federation, was appointed today as the new head of the Peruvian Institute of Sport (IPD). He replaces Saul Barrera, who resigned.

The resolution issued by the Executive Branch indicates that Fernandez will assume the position starting on Tuesday, December 6. This decision was accepted by Jaime Saavedra, Minister of Education, and President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

In 2015, after the resignation of Francisco Boza, Fernandez was rumored to assume the position, but ultimately Saul Barrera was chosen. Fernandez, a lawyer by profession, has been the highest authority of Athletics in Peru since 2013.

Oscar Fernandez is currently in Monaco, at a congress of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). From there, he wrote a message on his social media.
