MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The two-time Olympic pole vault champion, Russian athlete Elena Isinbayeva, asserted that Russian athletes had a "null defense" as no one defended their right to participate in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

"This is it... our fight for Rio is over... It is not my destiny to stand on the Olympic podium again, the Russian anthem will not sound in my honor anymore, I will no longer delight my fans by jumping over the bar... This injustice hurts a lot; our defense is weak, I would say non-existent", she stated on her Instagram account.

Well, that's it... our fight for Rio is over... It is not my destiny to stand on the highest step of the podium at the Olympics, the Russian anthem will no longer be played in my honor, I will no longer delight my dear fans with jumps over the bar... Oh God, how unfair this is. We have a weak defense, I would say non-existent. Nobody stood up for and defended my rights. I am sad to tears because of my own powerlessness in the face of this lawlessness and arbitrariness. Tears streaming down my cheeks as I realize everything I have done for track and field. Me and Evgeny Vasilyevich are 10 years ahead of our time. With our world records and victories, pole vaulting became the number one event in world athletics. My victory in Cheboksary remains the best result of the season in the world. What could I have given to the world in Rio - what height, what emotions - will remain a mystery... even to me... I want to cry...

Isinbayeva added that "no one supported me and defended my rights; it makes you want to cry out of helplessness in the face of this illegal and abusive act."

Isinbayeva will stop training if the IOC suspends Russian athletes from Rio 2016
This Sunday, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not suspend the entire Russian team from the 2016 Games, but left it in the hands of each international federation to decide which athletes can go to Rio.

According to the IOC, only Russian athletics is currently excluded from Rio 2016 after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed the lawsuit filed by the Russian Olympic Committee and Russian athletes against the IAAF following the suspension of Russian athletes from competitions, based on a recommendation from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
