Another gold medal for Peru! Luz Mery Rojas won in athletics at Santiago 2023.

Luz Mery Rojas won the gold medal after finishing the 10,000-meter flat race with a time of 33:12.99. It is the seventh gold medal that Team Peru has achieved in the Pan American Games.

Seventh gold medal for the Peruvian delegation! The Team Peru is doing a great job at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, and that is reflected in the number of medals it is obtaining. This Monday afternoon, Luz Mery Rojas won first place in the 10,000-meter flat race with an impressive time of 33:12.99. She was the total dominator of the race and celebrated with the national flag.

This Peruvian athlete made a great effort to reach the finish line first. In second place was Mexican Laura Galván with a time of 33:15:85, while the podium was completed by American Ednah Kurgat with a time of 33:16:61. It was undoubtedly a hard-fought race, but our compatriot finally won the gold.

With the national athlete's medal, Team Peru reached 22 medals at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023. In total, they won seven gold, two silver, and thirteen bronze medals.

It is worth mentioning that this same Monday, surfer Lucca Mesinas won the gold medal in the shortboard category. Surfer María Fernanda Reyes also won the gold medal in the longboard category. And surfer Piccolo Clemente won gold in longboard. Without a doubt, it has been a wonderful day for the Peruvian delegation.

Prize for Peruvian medalists

The Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD) will reward the best athletes with a monetary reward, according to the type of medal. The athletes will receive 80,000 soles for each gold medal, 60,000 soles for the silver medal, and 30,000 soles for the bronze medal. Note that the prize will accumulate in case they win more than one medal. So far, Peru has accumulated seven gold medals (including those won by cyclist Hugo Ruiz, marathon runner Cristhian Pacheco, and race walker Kimberly García), two silver medals, and thirteen bronze medals.
