This week the voting process to highlight the best of 2023 opens. World Athletics is pleased to confirm a list of 11 nominees for Male World Athlete of the Year.
These athletes were selected by an international panel of athletics experts, composed of representatives from the six continental areas.
In what has been another memorable year for the sport, the nominations reflect some of the standout performances achieved at the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships, one-day circuits, Label road races, and other events worldwide.
The nominees for Male World Athlete of the Year are (as for runners):
*Jakob Ingebrigtsen, NOR, 1500m/mile/5000m · 5000m World Champion and 1500m Silver Medalist · European records in 1500m, mile, and 3000m
*Kelvin Kiptum, KEN, marathon · Winner of the London and Chicago Marathons · Marathon world record
*Soufiane El Bakkali, MAR, 3000m steeplechase · World Champion · Undefeated in six finals
*Noah Lyles, USA, 100m/200m · 100m and 200m World Champion · World leader and undefeated in six finals in 200m
*Álvaro Martín, ESP, race walking · 20km and 35km Race Walking World Champion · World leader in 20km race walking
*Karsten Warholm, NOR, 400m hurdles/400m · 400m hurdles World Champion · Indoor 400m European Champion
