In an important determination, the directory of the Peruvian Olympic Committee appointed athletes Gladys Tejeda and Nicolás Pacheco as the flag bearers of our country in the opening ceremony of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games . This international sports event will take place in the mentioned Chilean city, from October 20 to November 5 of this year.

Gladys Tejeda, gold medalist in the women's marathon event at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, and Nicolás Pacheco, shooter athlete in the Skeet discipline and Olympic diploma in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, will have the honor of carrying the flag at the opening ceremony of Santiago 2023, which will take place at the National Stadium of Chile, this Friday, October 20.

"It is an honor for the country that athletes who are examples of sacrifice and achievements are the flag bearers in the opening ceremony of the continental Games. The whole of Peru will be pending the performances of the more than 200 athletes who will have the red and white flag on their chest," said the President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari Velazco.

Likewise, for the Closing Ceremony of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, the Peruvian Olympic Committee has decided that marcher Kimberly García and squash athlete Diego Elías will be the flag bearers when the sports event comes to an end (on November 5).

Kimberly García won two gold medals in the Athletics World Championships, being the first Latin American to win it, in the 35 km and 20 km race walking events, and was chosen as the best athletics athlete worldwide in 2022. In addition, she won the silver medal at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and has already obtained the qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Diego Elías won the silver medal at the 2015 Toronto Pan American Games and the gold medal in Lima 2019. At this moment, he holds second place in the world ranking, achieving relevant accomplishments in all high-level championships held worldwide.
