ALLEN PARK -- The Atlanta Falcons are signing former Detroit Lions running back and safety Godwin Igwebuike, per ESPN.
It’s been an interesting ride to Igwebuike. He bounced around the league while playing safety, spending stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets over two years. Igwebuike then played for the XFL’s Seattle Dragons before signing a futures deal with the Lions after the 2020 campaign.
The Lions moved Igwebuike to running back in the weeks before training camp and even used him as their primary kick returner for most of 2021. Igwebuike ran 18 times for 118 yards and one touchdown, catching seven passes for 60 yards while with the Lions.

Igwebuike spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks. The 28-year-old saw limited action across five games, with three carries for 4 yards. He joins a backfield in Atlanta featuring rookie Bijan Robinson, Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson at the top of the pecking order, so no easy task.
