Kimberly García, two-time world athletics champion, is among the 5 nominees for athlete of the year
Undoubtedly, Kimberly García's 2022 will go down in history. The 29-year-old athlete won two gold medals at the World Athletics Championships and as a result, has been announced as one of the five finalists for athlete of the year. Kimberly spoke exclusively with América Deportes and couldn't hide her happiness.
"Being among the top ten was already incredible and now being among the top five is an indescribable feeling," said Kimberly García. "Reaching this point is a lot and I honestly wasn't expecting it," she added.
García is among the select group of athletes such as Shelly Frase-Pryce (Jamaica) and Yulimar Rojas (Venezuela). The Peruvian is aware that it was all the result of her efforts. "I am very proud of what I am doing. After so many years practicing this sport, results are starting to show," she revealed.
Finally, the athlete knows that without the support and votes of the people, she could not have come this far. "I am very grateful to all the people who took the time to vote and they know that any achievement I accomplish is dedicated to them. In all my competitions, it will be the same. For all of Peru," concluded our champion, Kimberly García.
