The Bolivarian Games 2022 came to an end on Tuesday, July 5, and the Peruvian delegation finished with a total of 145 medals, 33 gold, 40 silver, and 72 bronze. In turn, President Pedro Castillo expressed his congratulations to national athletes such as Gladys Tejeda through his social media.

The head of State wrote on his official Twitter account about the three medals achieved in the early hours of the last day of competition. Gladys Tejeda, Luz Rojas, and Ferdinand Cereceda were the Peruvian athletes who received the warm greetings and recognition of the president.

The eight athletics competitions were held on Tuesday and in five of them, the country won a medal. The historic Gladys Tejeda, with three Olympic Games under her belt, had no problem sweeping the half marathon and with a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 13 seconds, she took first place on the final podium.

In the same race, Luz Rojas was only surpassed by the multimedalist born in Junín and took second place, with a difference of nine seconds. The third place was occupied by the Ecuadorian Rosa Alva Chacha, who completed the race in 1 hour, 16 minutes, and 38 seconds.

In the men's half marathon, Ferdinand Cereceda won the silver medal after finishing in second place in the competition. The Peruvian athlete recorded a time of 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 49 seconds, fifteen seconds behind the first-place finisher, Ecuador's Rafael Loza. The third position was taken by Christian Vasconez, also from Ecuador.
