Peruvian delegation continues to bring honor to the country's name at the I Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021. This time, the national flag waved high thanks to the performance of Daianne Hayashida and Lucciana Pérez, who achieved the Junior Pan American title in doubles tennis after defeating the Mexican team 2-0 in the final.

The Peruvian players prevailed in a tough and close match against the Mexican pair formed by Julia García and María Martínez, which pushed the match to the limit. With scores of 7-6 and 7-5, the Peruvian players secured the medal. To reach this stage, the Peruvian duo defeated the Brazilian pair 2-0 in the semifinals and in the previous round they overcame the Chilean pair 2-1. This is the second gold medal for the Peruvian delegation in Cali, as the first one was won by Sofía Mamani in the 5,000 meters athletics event.

With this new victory, Peru obtained its 20th medal in the continental event. Earlier, Mary Luz Andía, who participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, shone on the athletics track and won the silver medal in the women's 20,000 meters race walking.

Our compatriot achieved second place with a time of 1:35:26.52. She finished behind Ecuadorian athlete Glenda Morejón, who came in first with a time of 1:29:25.00. "I feel very happy and dedicate this medal to the whole country. It was a very tough competition, but little by little I was able to surpass myself until I reached second place. I am grateful for the support I received and we will continue training for 2022, a year in which there are very strong events," she said.

With Andía's latest achievement, the Peruvian athletics team has won its fourth medal. Previously, José Chaupín won bronze in the 5,000 meters and Frank Luján won bronze in the 10,000 meters event.

Enrique Herrera also stepped onto the podium in the 57 kg wrestling category. The Peruvian defeated Mexican athlete Erick Barroso 3-1 in the semifinals. Earlier, in the first round, he easily defeated Ecuadorian athlete Esteban Morales 5-0. Herrera fought against Cuban athlete Osmany Diversent and finally won the silver medal.
