As one of the most emblematic races celebrated in Peru, the 109 Lima Half Marathon, in addition to promoting running, is a tribute to the history of our capital from the early 20th century to the present day.
The history of the 109 Lima Half Marathon dates back to 1909, when 70 athletes gathered to run what would become the first edition of this traditional event.
Years later, it grew and members of various clubs enthusiastically signed up, with the San Martin arch as their starting point before heading to Callao. There was no more important pedestrian event in the capital.
This race brings together all runners and has more of a party atmosphere than a competition.
Lima Half Marathon
In 1999, 600 runners participated, and for the centennial in 2009, the number exceeded 3,000 registered participants. Since then, the 10k modality was added. In 2016, 8,000 runners registered, and a category for visually impaired runners was implemented.
This year, more than 10,000 runners are expected to participate, and if you want to be among them, you can register at the following link: https://goo.gl/vzekgQ.
Historical Runners
We can mention Julio Calderón, who became champion in the first two editions. The three-time champion Carlos Cruz Vega (1939-1942). In the fifties, Leonidas Botiquín and Luis Paredes. Or Hugo Gavino from Huancayo, finishing in the sixties. And more recently, John Cusi, Reynaldo Ramirez from Huaraz, Paulino Canchanya, or Ronald Pauca.
The starting line is at Plaza de Armas and the finish line is at Parque de Las Aguas.
