President Enrique Peña Nieto awards Diana Laura Coraza Castañeda with the National Sports Prize 2017
From the hands of the President of the Republic, Enrique Peña Nieto, the world champion in the 800 meters for blind and visually impaired, Diana Laura Coraza Castañeda, received the National Sports Prize 2017, in recognition of her outstanding career in adapted athletics.
Ceremony at Los Pinos Official Residence
The ceremony took place at the Los Pinos Official Residence, where the President congratulated Coraza Castañeda for placing the country's name high and for her future successes, especially now that her next challenge will be at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
Award and Recognition
Diana Laura earned the commemorative medal, a diploma signed by President Peña Nieto himself, as well as a financial incentive of 763,000 pesos, which filled her with joy, as it was something she never imagined but had been eagerly hoping for since her nomination.
"Luchador Olmeca 2017" Award
To top it off, Diana Coraza's journey had a golden ending with the "Luchador Olmeca 2017" Award, which was given to her by the Mexican Sports Confederation (CODEME) as one of the top athletes in her category, thanks to her achievements during the previous year.
Historic Performance in London
It is worth mentioning that the crowning moment for the athlete from Puebla was winning the gold medal in the 800 meters at the Para-Athletics World Championships held in London, where she also won silver in the 400 meters, marking a historic performance for Mexican sports.
