Marshawn Lynch's suspension appeal rejected

Marshawn Lynch's appeal, after being suspended for one game for pushing a referee, was rejected on Tuesday and the running back will not play in the Oakland vs. Buffalo game this week.

The appeals officer, James Thrash, appointed by the league and the NFLPA, upheld the fine without pay.

Lynch will be unable to play with the Raiders until October 30th.

Lynch was suspended for pushing a referee during the second quarter of the game in which Oakland defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-30. The fine will cost him over $100,000 in salary and other bonuses.

The incident began when Kansas City's Marcus Peters struck Oakland quarterback Derek Carr at the end of a run in the middle of the second quarter. Several members of the Raiders' offensive line, including Kelechi Osemele and Donald Penn, confronted Peters, and Lynch ran onto the field from the benches to join the scuffle. Referee Julian Mapp tried to break up the fight, but Lynch pushed him and grabbed his shirt. Lynch was ejected from the game and given a personal foul penalty.

While other players have only been fined for touching a referee, Lynch left the benches to join the scuffle, which worsens his offense and makes him eligible for a suspension, according to NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan.
