Isaac Makwala withdraws from the 400 meters final
Isaac Makwala withdrew from the 400 meters final due to a stomach virus that affected several athletes competing in the Athletics World Championships.
The Botswana sprinter was considered the main challenger to South African Wayde van Niekerk in the 200 and 400 meters.
Makwala withdrew from the 200 meters heats on Monday.
Makwala posted a statement on Facebook on Tuesday, stating that he was not feeling well. About five hours before the 400 meters final, the International Association of Athletics Federations confirmed his withdrawal from the race.
