The Jamaican Usain Bolt finishes third in the 100 meters final at the London 2017 World Championships
Jamaican Usain Bolt could not have the fairy tale farewell he expected and could only finish third in the 100 meters final at the 2017 London World Championships, his last race in this distance before retiring, while the veteran American Justin Gatlin took the title.
Usain Bolt matched his season's best time achieved on July 21 in Monaco, but it was not enough to win. In his final effort, he thrust his head and chest forward, leaving doubts about his final position, while the crowd at the Olympic Stadium in London impatiently awaited the result.
Usain Bolt, nearly 31 years old and the greatest athlete of all time, was left without a completely happy ending, surrendering his crown in the 100 meters.
This is the first time that Usain Bolt has lost in this race on the track in a major event, not counting the 2011 Daegu World Championships where he was disqualified for a false start and the title went to his compatriot Yohan Blake.
