28th Edition of the Atlas Half Marathon
One of the most traditional races in the city is ready to celebrate its 28th edition. The Atlas Half Marathon will take place on September 3rd at 7:30 a.m., and it is expected to attract athletes from all over the country and many foreigners.
Registration and Participants
The registration fee is 490 pesos and is limited to 5,600 participants. Registration closes on September 2nd or earlier if sold out.
Course and Spectators
The race covers a distance of 21.097 kilometers on some of the city's main roads. It will have over 1,200 volunteers, so more than 10,000 attendees and over 50,000 spectators are expected along the race route.
Awards and Benefits
The prize money is over 400,000 pesos, and participants can win cash prizes in all categories. Other benefits for runners include a runner's shirt, hydration services, post-race refreshments, commemorative medal, official time certificate, physical and athletic evaluations during the Sports Expo, timing technology, insurance coverage for amateur participants, and other gifts.
World Championship Selective
The Atlas Half Marathon has served as a qualifying race for the World Championships on four occasions, the latest being in 2009 for Birmingham, England.
Last Edition Winners
In the previous edition, the winners were Kenyan Caroline Jebiwot Kiptoo with a time of 01:16'41'' and Mexican Daniel Vargas with a time of 01:06'20''.
Fun Fact:
The current record for the Half Marathon belongs to Enos Ketter, who set a time of 1:03'03'' in 2003. In the women's category, Hyvone Ngetich achieved a time of 1:11'5'' in 2010.
