La Laguna makes history at the Lala Marathon in this 2017 edition.

The torreonense Isabel Vélez Hernández finished in first place in the women's category, being also the first woman from the Region to cross the finish line.

For this 29th edition of the Marathon, history was made, in the men's category Daniel Ortiz, by the way, Isabel's boyfriend, arrived in first place overall.

"At half Marathon I was feeling discomfort in my right foot, the encouragement and support from the people made me strong, I knew I would achieve it and so it was," she said.

Isabel crossed the finish line located as usual next to the Venustiano Carranza Forest, with a time of 3:00:06, after that she narrated part of her strategy.

"I went out at the pace I wanted, I maintained it and things started to fall into place, I held on to the first place and there I started to feel stronger, until kilometer 42, my teammate and I arrived together, from there on we closed the race with everything and saw who won, and well, now we're counting it," she said.

She acknowledged that at half marathon, she felt discomfort in her right foot, which made her think of the worst-case scenario, which was to abandon the competition, but the encouragement from the people along the way made her give her best.

"At half Marathon I was feeling discomfort in my right foot, it kept bothering me and I tried not to focus on that, the encouragement and support from the people made me strong, I knew I would achieve it and so it was," she said.

Sacrifice, preparation, sooner or later it pays off. "Since 5 years ago when I ran my first marathon and since then I haven't stopped, I had had this goal for a long time," she said.

Her partner, Daniel Ortiz, the absolute winner of the Marathon, both dreamed of this moment, to both win, and this Sunday, March 5, 2017, it became a reality.

"The truth is that it was a pleasant surprise, we dreamed of achieving a 1-1 but we didn't know that it would actually be possible," she concluded.
