After winning their match against Romania by 6-0, the Mexican women's hockey team secured the gold medal in the World Championship Division II Group B and, in the process, achieved promotion to Group A of the same division. Now they only have one match left against Turkey this Sunday to close their participation in the tournament that is taking place in Iceland.

With the title in their hands, starting on Monday they will have to think about the preparation that lies ahead, as in Group A they will face teams with higher hierarchies.

"We are now world champions, so we are very happy and ready for the last match, which we must play as a formality. We have achieved promotion and there is still another big step to reach the elite category. Obviously, things will get more complicated next year, as in the next division we will face teams like England, North Korea, South Korea, Netherlands, and Slovakia," said Joaquín de la Garma, president of the Mexican Ice Hockey Sports Federation (FDMHH).

The women's team will have a year of preparation, as their next appearance in the World Championship will be in Group A of Division II (it would be like the fourth step of the ranking) to see how far they can go.

"We will continue preparing the team, just as we did for this event where before the World Championship we were in Toronto to play two matches against Canadian teams with a very strong level.

This year we have the Pan American Championship in June, therefore, we will continue training hard. All the girls are willing to continue the preparation in the same way," said the federation.

In this World Championship, the team defeated Spain, Iceland, New Zealand, and Romania, remains undefeated, and on Sunday they will have the possibility of winning two individual awards.

"Claudia Téllez is one goal away from potentially becoming the best forward of the tournament and in assists, there are also rumors that Mónica Rentería could be recognized as the best goalkeeper," highlighted Joaquín de la Garma.
