The Pachuca Tuzos are in the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions League after defeating Costa Rica's Saprissa 4-0 at the Estadio Hidalgo.
The goals were scored by Víctor Guzmán (29'), Jonathan Urretaviscaya (31'), Franco Jara (69'), and Hirving Lozano (80').
At the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, in a duel between Mexican felines, Pumas and Tigres will face each other on Wednesday after having drawn 1-1 in the first leg of the series.
THE MATCH
Three minutes were enough for the Mexican team to resolve this match in their favor, dominating practically from the beginning against the proposal of a Costa Rican team that only relied on counterattacks and the opponent's mistakes.
Despite that, the path to victory was not so clear, as even though the "Tuzos" monopolized the ball, they had some trouble reflecting it on the scoreboard.
It was not until the 29th minute, from a left-side free kick to the far post, where Víctor Guzmán, unmarked, used the inside of his left foot to defeat goalkeeper Daniel Carvajal and score the 1-0.
Just three minutes later, Uruguayan Jonathan Urretaviscaya increased the lead with a good individual play. He took the ball at three-quarters of the field and entered the area, getting past two rivals to place his shot close to the post, despite the futile stretch of the goalkeeper.
The dynamic did not change much for the second half, and it was only a matter of time for Diego Alonso's players to achieve the rout.
The third goal came in the 68th minute from a cross from the right by Urretaviscaya, who reached the goal line and sent a center to the small area, where Argentine Franco Jara nodded his header in.
And with eleven minutes left, Hirving Lozano closed the scoreline on an error by goalkeeper Daniel Carvajal, who hit the ball against "Chucky" and sent it into the back of the net, sealing the 4-0 victory and advancing to the semifinals, where they will await their opponent.
The refereeing was carried out by Guatemalan Walter López, who gave a double yellow card to Daniel Colindres (86) and also booked Argentine Mariano Torres (23), Dave Myrie (28), Christian Martínez (52), Minor Escoe (73), and Fabrizio Ronchetti (78) from the visiting team. Víctor Guzmán (73) and Colombian Oscar Murillo (78) received a yellow card for the home team.
