The Brazilian fighter Anderson Silva defeated the American Derek Brunson by unanimous decision of the judges (29-28, 29-28 and 30-27) in the co-main event of UFC 208.
The fight was intense from the beginning, as Brunson always sought close combat and takedowns. From the clinch, the 'Spider' punished his opponent with knee strikes to the face.
The pace of the second round was similar: the American tried to take down Anderson Silva and he defended himself with strikes from close quarters. Brunson managed to take down the Brazilian, but he was able to stand up quickly without receiving any damage.
In the final round, Anderson Silva was taken down by his opponent. The result generated controversy, as the American had the initiative for most of the fight and landed the most accurate strikes.
Thus, the 'Spider' achieved his first victory in UFC since October 2012. "I fought tonight to give everyone a gift tonight. I know I am too old to fight, I know... I put my heart into it all the time," he said after the decision.
