Mexican National Team Could Suffer Attendance Decline in the United States

The Mexican national team has always been a crowd-puller in the United States. However, the strict immigration policies implemented by President Donald Trump could scare away fans and make them flee from the stadiums.

"We are aware of the current situation between Mexico and the United States, but we want to stay away from political issues," said Santiago Baños, sports director of the Mexican national team, when asked about it.

Despite the insistence, he explained that he trusts that the sports side will continue on the path it has taken in recent years, always hand in hand with Soccer United Marketing (SUM), the company in charge of managing the Mexican national team's image in the land of the stars and stripes.

"Our relationship with SUM is better than ever, it is very close, and we have a long-term contract. We hope to continue working with them for a long time. We know that there are compatriots who have been working and living here for a long time, and seeing their national team brings them joy. We see it as a very fraternal bond."

On the other hand, Baños explained that the Mexican national team will play two preparation matches, one in Los Angeles and another in New York, prior to the qualifying matches against Honduras and the United States. This is, of course, part of the commitment they have with SUM.
