The Brazilian came out "in defense" of his compatriot, after a childish taunt from the English ex-player about R9's physique.
What seemed like a simple joke ended up in a scandal. A few days ago, after Cristiano Ronaldo's fourth Ballon d'Or presentation, several Real Madrid legends who also won the award gathered at the Bernabeu for that event.
Michael Owen, one of the guests, dared to make a joke on his Twitter account that was more than criticized. "I thought I was putting the pounds on... until I saw my friend Ronnie," the message said.

The truth is that the joke did not go down well. Ronaldo referred to the issue. "I am shocked by the importance given to my overweight in the world we live in. I don't know why it is so important, to be honest," he said at The Best FIFA awards ceremony. Owen and Ronaldo played together at Real Madrid in the 2004/2005 season.
Now, Roberto Carlos joined in: "I don't like this kind of jokes. Ronaldo is a very good friend of mine and we have to be careful with these things. The issue about him is not about his body, but about his heart. He has a very big heart."
