If it wasn't an official game, the goal drought of Mexican striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez continued today by missing a penalty during Bayer Leverkusen's match against Estudiantes de La Plata.
After a 1-1 draw in the Florida Cup within the regular 90 minutes, in the penalty shootout the German team took the victory and the extra point with a score of 4-2.
In the early minutes, the Aspirin team came close to opening the scoring, but the crossbar denied Finnish player Joel Pohjanpalo the goal.
In the 33rd minute, Elias Umeres put the Argentine team ahead 1-0 with a good finish against Austrian goalkeeper Ramazan Ozcan.
Before halftime, 'Chicharito' took a penalty committed on himself, but Estudiantes' goalkeeper Mariano Andujar saved the shot down to his left to maintain the small advantage for the South Americans.
In the second half, with numerous changes in each team and Javier Hernandez being replaced, Bayer equalized in the 70th minute through young player Schrek, who took advantage of a defensive mistake to score at ease.
The 1-1 draw remained, so the winner had to be decided with penalty shots. Stefan Kiebling, Chilean player Charles Aranguiz, Julian Brandt, and Austrian player Aleksandar Dragovic scored for the Germans, while Admir Mehmedi missed his shot.
For Estudiantes, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez and Julian Marchioni scored, while Uruguayan player Matias Aguirregaray and Lucas Diarte missed their shots.
Bayer and 'Chicharito' Hernandez, who has not scored since October 1st in an official match, will continue in the Florida Cup next Wednesday against Atletico Mineiro.
