Yasiel Puig Could Play for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic

After dismissing the possibility on December 9th, Edgar Gonzalez has reopened the possibility of Yasiel Puig representing Mexico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic in March at the Zapopan ballpark.

The manager of the Mexican national team and the Charros de Jalisco had previously stated that Puig did not have the necessary documents to be considered Mexican. However, Major League Baseball would not prohibit the Dodgers' outfielder from playing for the Mexican team.

"It seems that the rules do not stipulate that we need to have a passport. While he could be Mexican in the future, he can choose. When we dismissed him in the meeting, Major League Baseball called us and told me that a passport was not necessary. That changes a lot of things, we no longer have to waste time on paperwork."

Regarding his work with the Charros de Jalisco, the team he was unable to lead to the playoffs, Gonzalez remains optimistic and acknowledged that he was pleased that they ended the season in the Mexican Pacific League with a victory. Although he is now focused on the World Baseball Classic in March, the manager also expressed his desire to be with Jalisco for the next winter season.

"I am pleased that we won two of the last three games here at home. We fought until the end, there is a solid foundation, and I feel that the Charros have a bright future. I am very interested in being here next year, Guadalajara fascinates me. Besides, there is a great relationship with the management and the players, they are first class. If you are going to spend the winter in Mexico, this is where you should be," he concluded.
