Cain Velasquez prepares for his toughest challenge to date

The Mexican roots fighter, Cain Velasquez, is gearing up for one of the toughest challenges of his career. He will be seeking revenge on December 30th at UFC 207, where he will face Fabricio Werdum, who took away his heavyweight belt.

There have been recent rumors about Cain Velasquez not being present at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but the fighter himself has denied them. However, he revealed that he is currently experiencing severe back pain and will undergo surgery after the fight.

"It's a constant pain that radiates down my leg and reaches a point where, if you stand for 10 minutes, you have to sit down. If you move around for a while, let's say half an hour, it becomes quite painful. You'll have to sit down to relieve the pressure on your back," explained Cain Velasquez in an interview with ESPN.

"The surgery basically consists of scraping the bone a bit to make room for my sciatic nerve," added Cain, who has had to take other measures to control the pain. That's why he started using a cannabidiol oil spray (the main component of marijuana), which he claims is much better than painkillers.

"It's the only thing that allows me to continue training. I'm not taking a harmful painkiller that I will later become addicted to. It may sound strange, but these are the things fighters go through. In the past, in the NFL, players became addicted to painkillers. I don't want to be one of them," concluded Cain Velasquez.
