No belt fight for the half of the main event of UFC 206, as Anthony Pettis failed to make weight on Friday morning in Toronto and was three pounds short of the featherweight limit. His opponent, Max Holloway weighed in at 145 pounds and will be eligible to win the interim UFC title if he emerges victorious.
The Milwaukee native will also lose 20 percent of his purse and is now further away from the possibility of fighting for the absolute title against Jose Aldo in 2017, as the UFC president stated on the Canadian version of SportsCentre that despite being only 10 pounds over, he is "too old and big for the weight class".
It was a difficult ceremony for several fighters, as in the lightweight division, Dagestani Rustam Khabilov also had to give up on the attempt and came in 3.5 pounds over. Meanwhile, Canadian Valerie Letourneau, who tried to return to the strawweight division, also missed weight at 117.5 pounds for her fight against Viviane Pereira.
Kelvin Gastelum recovered from a bad weight cut at UFC 205 and will be competing this time in the middleweight division, where he did make weight to face Tim Kennedy.
