Roberto Chale, coach of Universitario de Deportes, spoke to the press and explained why he decided to include defender John Galliquio in the starting lineup that lost 2-1 to Melgar in the first leg of the semifinals.
"No one knew that Galliquio was going to play. In the 1958 World Cup (in Sweden), Djalma Santos played for Brazil in the final match and became champion. And there a great '10' also appeared: Pelé. And since we are veterans, I remembered that. Experience is important," said the remembered 'Niño Terrible' (Terrible Kid).
The 'cremas' coach admitted that the physical aspect took a toll on his players. "Universitario played with a great effort in the first half. After that, Melgar only arrived twice and scored. We didn't have that luck."
Finally, he filled himself with faith and assured that his team will come out victorious in the second leg. "Universitario will rise and win 2-0. It will be proven that matches last 180 minutes. We are very optimistic and with high spirits."
