Frigid defeat for the champion

Necaxa defeated Pachuca 2-1 in the first leg of the Quarterfinals of the Clausura 2016.

Necaxa defeated Pachuca 2-1 in the first leg of the Quarterfinals of the Clausura 2016.

Necaxa takes advantage of home field and defeats the current champion of the Liga MX 2-1

The first few minutes of the first half passed by with neither team getting involved in the match. It wasn't until after the first five minutes that Hirving Lozano sent the first shot that didn't bother Marcelo Barovero.

The Necaxa goalkeeper was once again attacked in the ninth minute, in a play down the right wing by Franco Jara, who sent in a cross that Urretaviscaya couldn't connect with due to the timely intervention of the home defense.

As is customary for Mexican soccer fans, the "ehhh puto!" chant appeared in the stands of the Victoria Stadium, on Oscar Pérez's first clearance, Pachuca's goalkeeper who would later become the sad figure of the match.

After the first chance, a counterattack by Club Necaxa followed, but the referee awarded a free kick in favor of the visitors, as he believed Edson Puch leaned on Emmanuel García, although the Aguascalientes fans didn't agree with this decision, and the boos towards the referee began.

In the 17th minute, the Hidrocálidos started to retain the ball more and the first clear chance came, as a powerful shot from Jesús Isijara was saved by the 'Conejo' to avoid the first goal of the night.

The electricians took the corner kick, which was rejected by the Tuzos defense, but the ball fell to the feet of Michel García, who shot from outside the opposing goal, but 'Conejo' did not allow the midfielder to open the scoring at the Victoria.

Later, a cross from Chilean Edson Puch came, which Jesús Isijara and Michel García wasted as they couldn't shoot towards the opposing goal.

It wasn't until the 32nd minute that Luis Felipe gave the advantage to Alfonso Sosa's team, after an error by 'Conejo' Pérez, who had the ball under control, but it slipped from him and ended up in the back of the net. From that moment on, the 'Sobredosis', fans of the Rayos, chanted "gol" every time Oscar Pérez touched the ball.

The home team dominated the match until the whistle of central referee Erick Yair Miranda, who ended the first half.

The second half began and Club Pachuca sought to equalize the score, as in the first opportunity, 'Chucky' Lozano shot a cross that was saved by goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero.

In the first 10 minutes, neither team generated any dangerous plays. It wasn't until the 59th minute that Manuel Iturra unleashed a shot, but it went wide.

In the 60th minute, the first substitution for the home team came, Fernando Meza replaced Marcos González, who came off due to an injury.

Pachuca continued to press and in a corner kick play, they gave their first warning, with Omar González's shot going wide; although in the 66th minute, Víctor Guzmán shot from outside the area to equalize the score at the Victoria Stadium.

Despite this, the Rayos continued to insist, as they were aware that a victory at home would make their stay in Hidalgo more comfortable. In the clearest play of the second half, with a great play from Edson Puch down the right wing, evading the marking of the visitor's defenders, he crossed the ball to Riaño, who only had to finish towards the goal to make it 2-1.

Before the end of the match, tempers flared and a scuffle broke out between the players, but it didn't escalate as the central referee controlled the situation.

Despite the attempts of the team led by Diego Alonso, they were unable to equalize the score and now they will have to win in order to continue defending their title, but a goal from the Rayos could end their search for the consecutive championship.
