For Santos Laguna's right-back, Javier Abella, it will not be a full vacation, as he will have to recover from the knee injury he suffered during the match in Toluca last Sunday.
In the match corresponding to Round 17 of the 2016 Apertura Tournament between Toluca and Santos, the defender suffered a grade two sprain of the medial collateral ligament of his left knee.
So starting this week, the Santos academy player will begin his rehabilitation work under the supervision of the club's medical services.
Santos Laguna U-20, the top-ranked team in the tournament, will conclude their preparation in Guadalajara ahead of their Quarterfinal match against Chivas. The first leg will take place this Thursday at 10:00 am at Verde Valle facilities.
The second leg will be on Sunday at 11:00 am at Territorio Santos Modelo, so the albiverde team will try to take advantage of this first match, where one of the players to watch will be Ronaldo Cisneros.
With just ten matches played in the U-20 category, the forward became the top scorer of the 2016 Apertura Tournament with 10 goals, becoming an essential contribution to the team's objective of reaching the playoffs.
"We feel the same as the other teams, there are no favorites in the playoffs, but we have confidence in the team."
Now focused on supporting the Santos team in their quest for their second league title in the last three tournaments, the national youth team player commented:
"It's really exciting, for many of us, it's the fifth consecutive playoffs in youth teams, we are very motivated to do things right," explained the native of Torreon about the start of the Fiesta Grande.
"Very grateful for the top scorer title with my teammates, with my family and with God, it's also an opportunity to continue showing myself, to do things right so that they keep considering me for the first team," he added.
The forward stated that the albiverde squad does not think about being labeled as favorites in the series against the team from Guadalajara:
"We feel the same as the other teams, there are no favorites in the playoffs, but we have confidence in the team."
Regarding the matter of closing the series at home, he made it clear: "We have already experienced both situations, closing at home or away, the team is very prepared for any situation."
