Lobos de Nueva Rosita: A Journey of Effort and Determination
Raymundo Lopez, coach of Lobos de Nueva Rosita's youth team, announced that after advancing to the semifinals of the tournament without resources for accommodation and meals, the young players gave their best effort and made it to the finals.
"We came from Nueva Rosita with enough support to stay until last Sunday, as we were not aware that the tournament would end on Monday. We did not have a budget for a hotel, so we were sleeping 5 to 6 people in one room."
The Lobos de Nueva Rosita team made it to the finals without any financial resources but with hearts of iron. It is composed of 14 boys between the ages of 15 and 17.
He mentioned that the contract for the van they arrived in at Comarca Lagunera had expired and they couldn't afford to hire a truck, so they decided to take a risk.
On Sunday, November 20, they considered withdrawing from the tournament due to lack of resources. It was then that the team members made a video to send to the authorities in Nueva Rosita to request support.
"The Governor, Ruben Moreira, was in that locality and instructed the mayor, Miguel Riquelme, to help us with one more day of hotel and meals."
"We competed against 10 teams from all over Mexico. It is a national baseball tournament taking place in the Laguna region."
Raymundo Lopez, coach of the team, recalled that his debut was at the age of 17 in Torreon, with the Algodoneros de la Union Laguna. He played professionally for 6 years and also played in the United States, which is the experience he now passes on to young people who are interested in the king of sports.
"The boys play against older people. There is no youth baseball league in the municipality." The coach said that more support from the authorities in the sports field is needed.
