Sergio Perez faces disappointing classification at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

It was not the classification that Sergio Pérez expected in front of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez crowd, but he does not feel out of possibilities for the Mexican Grand Prix.

Checo was left out of the third qualifying round after finishing in 12th place in the second and will start from the sixth row, behind what he has been registering in the last few rounds of the Formula 1 championship.

"The weekend is not over, we have to improve, tomorrow we have nowhere to go but forward, we have to fight with all our might to move forward and achieve a great result. Today I failed but tomorrow I hope to please my fans," said Pérez at the end of the session.

The driver from Jalisco explained the problem in Q2, which prevented him from starting in the Top 10, "I was the one who made the mistake, this qualifying was very bad for me, I locked up in turn one. Today I failed but I hope to recover, I make things more difficult for myself but I hope I can give some satisfaction," he added.

Friday's practice left him with a bad taste in his mouth, after damaging the car's floor by going over the curb at turn 11, although that problem was resolved, "If it's better now, we did a good job with the floor after yesterday's incident, but we should have qualified better."

One of the greatest strengths of the Force India driver is his tire management, and he hopes it will help him in this race, "A one-stop strategy seems possible in the simulations, but we have to see what happens with traffic, lap one and so on," he shared.

The hours leading up to the start are crucial, it will depend on the track conditions to be able to execute, as "There are some options in the strategy, we have the option to start with the used tire from Q2, the soft compound, we have a new super soft and medium, we have all three compounds and we believe we can recover with the strategy," detailed Pérez Mendoza.

At the age of 28, he is one of the best in the paddock when it comes to tire selection and will put that to the test, "the medium compound has good degradation, the question is about the soft and super soft, so depending on what the track does, we'll see what we do," concluded the driver, who can select the compound until minutes before taking the grid.
